Merry Monday | 12.3.24

I know it’s Tuesday, but Monday kind of got away from me, but I wanted to start the holiday season off right. I haven’t written in a while, but I wanted to begin Merry Mondays with some gratitude. The season of gratitude is among us, and I have a lot to be thankful for. The past couple of weeks have been super busy, and I even had a week of complete stressful events. Through it though, I had the reassurance of my mother and the listening ear of my boyfriend to calm me down and help me see things clearly. I haven’t had stress like that in a while, and it made me realize that sometimes you have to clean up your associate/friend pool just like you purge your house.

This is my favorite time of year and I put my trees up in my house and I started Christmas shopping. I have some more to get, but I’m keeping it simple. I don’t have a lot of people that I buy gifts for, but I try to be intentional and thoughtful about what I buy people as gifts. This year, I really wanted to focus on shopping with local businesses. In Detroit, we have so many amazing small businesses, you can really find something for everyone. I have a friend who has a shop (The Peacock Room) that I always go to for gifts or just to browse. She has four stores and I usually find something in one, or two, of them that I like. There is also a home decor store (Urbanum) that I love that I need to check out for some gifts, and maybe some home items for myself. I strongly suggest shopping small businesses in your area because it helps your community directly and you always learn something new.

Also this year, I decided I wanted to go see the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train, but I had to find somewhere close to see it because I had to work the next day. So, a friend of mine had a place we could see it and asked me to go with her. It was a rainy and cold night, so we went prepared for the elements and had a great time. The train was supposed to come by around 9:30pm, but it got delayed and didn’t come until 10:30pm. I was turning into a pumpkin, but when I saw the train I was so excited and giddy! I felt like a little kid seeing a Christmas tree for the first time. Totally a bucket list item I got to check off!

I hope you have started checking your list and checking it twice. I plan on going to experience some of the holiday activities downtown this year. There is so much going on, but I want to experience all the fun and holiday cheer in Detroit!
